They have become dependent on nest boxes and this house is ideal due to the scarcity of holes excavated by a large woodpeckers or flickers which these ducks naturally use for nesting.

Range: Buffleheads breed in Alaska east to western Quebec, and south in mountains to Washington and Montana. They winter in southern U.S., south to Mexico, the Gulf Coast and northern Florida.
Habitat: Prefers nesting on wooded lakes and ponds. In their winter range, they prefer salt bays and estuaries.
