How to Attract Squirrels

While many people see squirrels as pesky birdfeeder thieves, they can just as easily be your backyard jesters with their playful disposition and acrobatic feats. There are many types of feeders made specifically for squirrels, which will not only make them happy, but potentially keep them away from your bird feeders.

The simplest squirrel feeder is a spike feeder. A spike feeder is used for offering whole ears of corn. Corn ears can also be offered on swings, teeter-totters and bungee cord feeders. Another type of squirrel feeder is boxes with lids. These are meant to hold whole peanuts or squirrel chow, and can easily be accessed by squirrels, while keeping birds out. A final way to invite squirrels into your backyard is to provide a squirrel house. These should be placed as high up as possible in a tree. Once a family of squirrels has moved into your backyard, their playful antics will make you smile throughout the year.
