the holes during the spring, and open once the young are 7-10 days old.

These are real nice gourds with thick walls and heavy duty inspection caps. The nest chamber is approx. 8" x 10" and with the tunnel, the depth from the starling resistant Conley II entrance, is 13". That is excellent depth to deter owl predation. The landing ledge is 3" x 6" and is ribbed for good traction. 4 small canopies may be drilled out for additional ventilation. Add a couple of handfuls of soft pine needles and these gourds will provide an ideal environment for purple martin nesting success.
