The Bird Abodes 10" Purple Martin SuperGourd was designed and developed by the Director of the Purple Martin Conservation Association based on over 20 years of research into the breeding biology of martins.

The SuperGourd is a one-piece plastic gourd with a molded-in, threaded access port, covered by a screw-on cap. The access port is large enough to admit a human hand and is totally watertight. It weighs in at 31 ounces, slightly heavier than a natural gourd its size, so it swings less in the wind. The one-piece body has no seams, so no rain will leak in, and seven 5/16 drain holes provide a rapid exit for any rain that may blow in through the entrance hole.

Excellent quality, really like the extended step in the gourd. This further prevents the the likes of crows, hawks snd owls from reaching into to nest reaching for little ones.
Seems well made, a little larger than I was expecting. A lot nicer than my real gourds, which always needs repainting. I don’t think it’s fair that I had to buy the porches, since they are included with the crescent opening and not the round. Also, the included template is not correct. The holes don’t match up correctly, about 1/2 hole width off.
Hey Mark, I do appreciate the feedback and I completely understand your feeling on the porches not being included. Just to clarify for you and others we really don't recommend putting porches on the round hole gourds due to the starlings that can invade the nests. They have much easier access when porches are put on. The martins don't need the porches so you might consider to try only adding them to a few and see what happens. It's for that reason we don't include them so I hope that make sense. Wishing you all the best with your colony!

I like the shape and the clean out on the side. They are sturdy. They were too big for my pole system and were heavy on my pole rods. I would have sent them back but I drilled the extra holes on the stem to fit my system. I like the concept but didn’t fit the rack.

We got both shipment in a short time. The gourd are made well except for 1 that the lid will not tighten up, The bird have started to move in already..

18 supergourds arrived in just a few day in perfect shape, and the porches were included, porches attached very easy. I just have to decide which way to hang them side to side or front to back

should come with the landing platforms you want $8.00 each for them platforms and I have A bird store near me that sells the superGourd and platforms for $25.00 complete .
